The Chinese Embassy in Cambodia stated on June 4, 2020 that officials from China and Cambodia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries are discussing an agreement involving Cambodia’s annual export of 500,000 tons of high-quality mangoes to China.
Since the accession of Cambodian yellow bananas to China in April last year, mango will be the second agricultural product approved for export to China.
Industry insiders predict that the opening of the Chinese market will further promote the development of Cambodian agricultural products and the economy.
Mong Reththy, chairman of Mong Reththy Group, an agricultural and industrial group that invests in mango cultivation and export, said that the access agreement will bring many benefits to the Cambodian people, mango growers and investors.
According to the Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture report, Cambodia exported 44099 tons of fresh mangoes in the first five months of this year, an increase of 50.95% from 29214 tons in the same period last year. In 2019, Cambodia exported 58162 tons of fresh mangoes to Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, France, Russia and Hong Kong.
