The State Council Information Office held a press conference at 10:00 on July 31, 2019 (Wednesday). Assistant Minister of Commerce Li Chenggang, Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Lu Pengqi and Vice Chairman of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Yang Jinbai introduced the China-ASEAN economic and trade cooperation and the first The 16th China-ASEAN Expo, China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit, and answered questions from reporters.

China and ASEAN are good partners for mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. The economic and trade cooperation has developed rapidly, the scale of trade has been continuously expanded, and the results of regional economic integration have been remarkable, mainly in the following aspects.

First, the bilateral trade volume continues to grow. China has maintained ASEAN’s largest trading partner for 10 consecutive years, and ASEAN has become China’s second-largest trading partner. From January to June this year, the import and export trade volume of China-ASEAN was US$291.85 billion, a year-on-year increase of 4.2%.

Second, investment cooperation has been fruitful. By the end of 2018, the two-way cumulative investment of China and ASEAN reached US$205.71 billion, and the two-way investment stock increased 22 times in 15 years. ASEAN has become a key area for Chinese enterprises to invest abroad and has played a positive role in promoting economic growth and employment in various countries.

Third, the “One Belt, One Road” economic and trade cooperation has yielded fruitful results. Under the framework of the “Belt and Road” initiative, China and ASEAN countries jointly launched the China-Singapore interconnection project, China-Malaysia “Double Country Park”, China-Myanmar oil and gas pipeline, Indonesia’s Yawan High-speed Railway, China-Laos Railway, and China-Thai Railway. Cooperation; the economic and economic parks of the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone, the Taizhong Luoyong Industrial Park, and the Vietnam Longjiang Industrial Park jointly established with the ASEAN countries have been completed or operated; in April this year, the second “One Belt, One Road” international cooperation peak The forum was successfully held. The 10 ASEAN countries all sent high-level government delegations to attend the meeting, reached a consensus on high-quality joint construction of the “Belt and Road”, and signed a new batch of cooperation agreements with fruitful results.

Fourth, the process of regional economic integration has accelerated. The “China-ASEAN Free Trade Area Upgrade Protocol” finally completed the domestic procedures of China and 10 ASEAN countries in November last year and was fully effective. In recent years, China has cooperated with ASEAN countries to build a number of economic and trade cooperation parks and has built an important carrier for promoting the Chinese enterprises to go global and cooperate with ASEAN countries in international capacity cooperation and equipment manufacturing cooperation. With the cooperation of the Minjiang-Mekong sub-regional cooperation, the Greater Mekong Sub-regional cooperation, the China-Indochina Economic Corridor, and the Pan-Beibu Gulf Economic Cooperation, regional and sub-regional cooperation has become a new bright spot and new growth point for China-ASEAN cooperation.

China-ASEAN economic and trade cooperation has continued to develop rapidly, benefiting from the “booster” role of the China-ASEAN Expo. In the 15 years since the China-ASEAN Expo was held, we have been closely following the construction process of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area. On the basis of promoting trade and promoting investment, we have firmly grasped the cooperation hotspots such as international production capacity, park cooperation, interconnection, and cross-border e-commerce. Expanding the platform, enriching the content, improving the effectiveness, creating business opportunities for both companies, and playing a positive role in promoting China-ASEAN friendly cooperation and building the “Belt and Road”. The 16th China-ASEAN Expo will be held in Nanning from September 20th to 23rd this year. This year’s China-ASEAN Expo takes the opportunity of implementing the “China-ASEAN Strategic Partnership 2030 Vision” and the China-ASEAN Media Exchange Year as an opportunity to highlight the theme of “Building a Belt and Road” and drawing a vision of cooperation. The China-ASEAN Free Trade Area has been upgraded and developed and is committed to promoting China-ASEAN good-neighborly friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation and helping to build a closer China-ASEAN destiny community.
