On Christmas Eve, a city in eastern China always attracts the attention of domestic and foreign media. It is called “Santa’s Studio.”
This is Yiwu, Zhejiang, where two-thirds of the world’s Christmas decorations are produced.
However, when the world’s vision is still on the scale of Yiwu’s exports, the world’s largest small commodity distribution center, and procurement base has begun a reform – building a national distribution center for imported goods.
At present, the supply of Yiwu imported goods comes from more than 100 countries and regions around the world. The number of domestic and foreign buyers to Yiwu reaches 10 million and 500,000 respectively, and the number of overseas merchants who are based in Yiwu purchasing small Chinese commodities or imported goods reaches 13,000.
By holding “China Yiwu Import Commodities Expo” and “Imported Goods Shopping Festival” and other promotional activities, Yiwu is actively expanding the distribution channels of imported goods. Among them, the 2017 China Yiwu Import Commodities Fair attracted a total of 1,518 domestic and foreign companies to participate in the exhibition, with a whole intention of 1.276 billion yuan.
Zhu Yongjian, head of the Import Section of Yiwu Trade Bureau, said that overseas SMEs could develop import business in Yiwu using enterprises or by recruiting agents. As a quality trading platform, Yiwu will help them sell their products to China and the world.
Yiwu now has a railway port, an airport, and an international mail exchange bureau. It has been approved to set up a designated port for meat and is applying for a selected port for fruit. At the same time, Yiwu has also issued a series of policies, and the level of import customs clearance has been continuously improved. To ensure the transportation of goods, Yiwu has formed a global cargo transportation and distribution network. There are thousands of domestic logistics enterprises and international freight forwarding agents in Yiwu.
