China's chip self-sufficiency rate increased

At present, the world’s chip powers, the first in the United States, the second should be South Korea, China should be able to rank third, the share maybe around 10%. Considering that China is the world’s largest chip consumer market, it consumes about 70% of the world’s chips, but its self-sufficiency rate is less than 20%. Therefore, although it ranks third, its share is a bit low, so the chips imported from the United States and South Korea in recent years. Numerous, imported chips in 2018 even exceeded 2 trillion RMB (1 RMB is about 0.1441 US dollars). Among them, the main import from the United States is the processor, CPU, and the main import from South Korea is a memory. The United States and South Korea also earned a lot of money by exporting these chips to China.

By 2019, the situation has changed and the Chinese chip has increased its self-production rate. And began to attack high-end chips, reducing the dependence on the United States, South Korea chips. According to China Customs data, in the first half of 2019, China’s chip exports reached 311.43 billion RMB, an increase of 24.2%. The number of export chips was 98.96 billion, down 8.5% year-on-year. This means that the unit price of export chips is increasing, while the high unit price means that high-end chips are increasing. South Korean semiconductor exports have fallen for 8 consecutive years. Since the beginning of this year, South Korean semiconductor exports have decreased by 28.1%, and exports to China have decreased by 16.3%, which means that China has purchased fewer and fewer chips from South Korea. There are two reasons for this. First, the demand market is weak and needs less, so it is less expensive. However, considering the overall chip consumption value of China, the value of imported chips in the first half of this year has not decreased much, so this means China is raising its self-sufficiency rate, so it is less bought from South Korea. At present, China has made rapid progress in memory chips. This year, China-made NAND flash memory, China-made SSD has been launched, and DRAM memory will be listed. It is estimated that chips imported from Samsung will be further reduced.
