Ho Chi Minh City’s exports of goods increase by 7.9% in the first five months of 2022

In the first five months of 2022, against the backdrop of many difficulties and changes in the world economy that have affected global trade, Ho Chi Minh City’s export value still achieved an impressive growth rate of 7.9%.

According to data from the General Statistics Office of Ho Chi Minh City, in May 2022, the total value of goods exported by Ho Chi Minh City enterprises to various ports across the country exceeded VND 4.45 billion, a month-on-month increase of 9.5%. The export value of non-crude oil exceeded VND 4.28 billion, a month-on-month increase of 12.6%.

The total value of goods exported by Ho Chi Minh City enterprises (including crude oil) to the city’s ports reached nearly US$3.46 billion, down 2.7% from the previous month. Among them, the export value of state-owned enterprises reached US$207.4 million, down 30.5% from the previous month; the export value of non-state-owned enterprises reached US$1.1295 billion, down 8.4% from the previous month, and the export value of foreign-funded enterprises was US$2.122 billion, a year-on-year increase of 4.9%.

In the first five months of 2022, the total value of goods exported by Ho Chi Minh City enterprises at various ports across the country reached US$20.7 billion, a year-on-year increase of 7.9%, and the export value (excluding crude oil) reached US$19.8 billion, a year-on-year increase of 7.3%.

In terms of the structure of export goods, the export value of industrial products reached 12.6 billion US dollars, an increase of 11% year-on-year, accounting for 74.9%, of which the export value of computers, electronic products and parts reached 6.85 billion US dollars, an increase of 4.2%; other mechanical equipment, appliances and The export value of spare parts reached 1.13 billion US dollars, an increase of 30.3%; the export value of textiles and clothing reached 1.8 billion US dollars, an increase of 30.3%; the export value of footwear products reached 1 billion US dollars, an increase of 8.6%. In addition, although crude oil export volume fell by nearly 19% year-on-year in the first five months, the export value increased by 24.6% to US$869 million.

The export value of agricultural products exceeded 1.9 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 22%, accounting for 11.3% of the export. The export value of aquatic products reached nearly 540 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 74%. The export value of forest products reached 323 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 3%.

Regarding the export market, China is still the largest export market for Ho Chi Minh City enterprises. In the first five months of 2022, exports to China exceeded US$4.37 billion, a year-on-year increase of 10.6%, accounting for 24.7% of exports. The U.S. market ranks second, with an export value of about 3 billion US dollars, accounting for 16.9% of exports. Followed by the Japanese market, exports amounted to 1.1 billion US dollars. In addition, exports to the European market amounted to 2.55 billion US dollars, an increase of 8.5%, accounting for 14.4% of exports.

In the first five months of 2022, the total import volume of Ho Chi Minh City enterprises at various ports across the country reached 28.44 billion US dollars, an increase of 11.6% year-on-year

As of May 20, 2022, there were 17,295 newly established enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City, with a total registered capital of VND 226.848 trillion. Compared with the same period, the number of newly established enterprises increased by 12.5%.
