China’s large electric vehicle production company, in conjunction with Thai companies, imported the first batch of electric vehicles from China, about 5,000, for use as taxis.
According to the news of the Thai auto industry on the 11th, China’s electric vehicle company will cooperate with Thai companies to prepare to import the first batch of electric vehicles from China. The 5,000 Chinese-made electric vehicles will be unveiled at the 2018 Auto Show at the end of the year. The car will be free to carry passengers at the Siam Commercial Center in Bangkok, and the taxi drivers will be tested. It is expected to be put into service next year. At present, the price of electric vehicles is still limited to no more than Toyota vehicles or no more than 950,000 baht per vehicle. It is estimated that the investment budget for importing electric vehicles and establishing various related systems is about 5 billion baht. The news also said that in order to make electric vehicles develop rapidly in Thailand, it must start with a taxi. Because of the largest number of taxis, there are many people using taxi services, just as Toyota entered the Thai market. A total of 30,000 taxis have to be phased out in September this year, and now all taxis are 90,000, so it is a good opportunity for taxi companies to change cars. But the important point is the price of electric taxis, not to be too far from the price of the Toyota Altis series. At present, the number of electric vehicles imported from China is about 1.5 million baht. If it is started in Thailand now, the price will be in the range of 85-95 million baht, and the annual production will reach 50,000. In order to open the electric taxi market for the first time, the company will first subsidize the price of some electric taxis. If successful, it will establish a car assembly plant in Thailand to gradually reduce the price of cars.
