The reporter learned from China Railway Shanghai Bureau Group Co., Ltd. that at 10:36 on February 22, with the 79561/4 freight train carrying 70 TEUs of export goods, it departed from Nanjing Yaohuamen Railway Station and headed for the capital of Laos. Vientiane marks the opening of the China-Laos Railway (Nanjing-Vientiane) international freight train COFCO. This is also the first international freight train on the China-Laos Railway in Jiangsu Province since the Year of the Tiger in the lunar calendar.
COFCO Group Co., Ltd. is a large state-owned enterprise directly under the central government, a leader in China’s agricultural and grain industry, and an international major grain merchant with global layout and entire industrial chain. More than half of the company’s operating income comes from overseas, and the global annual operating volume of agricultural products is more than double the annual import volume of China.
The COFCO special train is scheduled to run three trains between February 22 and 28. It will be loaded with goods such as food and packaging materials produced by COFCO to serve the economic and social development of Laos and the living needs of the people. The special train will leave the country at the Mohan Railway Port in Yunnan and end at Vientiane South Railway Station, the capital of Laos, with a total running distance of more than 3,500 kilometers. The second and third columns are scheduled to open on February 25 and 28, respectively.
On December 8, 2021, Jiangsu opened the China-Laos Railway (Nanjing-Vientiane) international freight train for the first time, focusing on promoting the refined and diversified layout of overseas routes, opening up new foreign trade channels for local enterprises and cultivating new foreign trade growth points.
Up to now, 7 international freight trains of the Jiangsu China-Laos Railway (Nanjing-Vientiane) have been operated, with an average of 2 trains per month, and the operation is in good condition.
It is reported that the China-Laos Railway is an important infrastructure that integrates and serves the construction of the “Belt and Road” and promotes the interconnection between China and neighboring countries. The railway department will cooperate with local governments, customs, platform companies and other departments and enterprises to strengthen the transportation organization of international freight trains on the China-Laos railway around the requirements of “well-maintained and well-operated” China-Laos railway, and strive to start the return freight trains as soon as possible to achieve Two-way operation between Nanjing and Vientiane.
