The total aluminum imports from January to February in the United States were 563,000 tons, down from 935,000 tons in the same period last year. From January to February, crude metal and alloy products accounted for the majority of aluminum imports at 494,000 tons.

By country, the United States imported 150,000 tons of aluminum from Canada in February. Canada was the main source of aluminum consumption for the month in the United States, including 145,000 tons of crude metals and alloys, and 5,300 tons of scrap.

The United States mainly imports semi-finished aluminum (including sheet, sheet and bar products) from Saudi Arabia for 7450 tons.

USGS data shows that the US aluminum imports from China decreased to 5,070 tons in February, and aluminum imports from China decreased from January to February to 13,000 tons, which were lower than the 15,600 tons and 31,000 tons in the previous year.

February aluminum imports in the United States also fell sharply in February, from 44,500 tons in the same period last year to 8,520 tons, mainly because imports from Mexico fell by 86%. Compared with 11,700 tons in February 2019, the total amount of scrap metal imported from Mexico in February this year was only 1,640 metric tons.

In February this year, US aluminum products and scrap aluminum exports were 236,000 tons, a slight decline from the 240,000 tons in the same period last year. The main destinations for US aluminum exports that month were Mexico (50,200 tons), Canada (46,500 tons) and India (33,000 tons).

In February this year, the total US aluminum exports to China were 13,800 tons, down from 39,600 tons in February 2019. The decrease in exports was mainly due to a 70% reduction in waste exports to 11,400 tons.
